Inaugurated on 23 September 2008, this municipal structure, which has undergone a major restoration, now also houses the Pasinetti Video Library, on the ground floor of Palazzo Mocenigo while the offices of the Municipal Cinema Circuit have been on the first floor for some years.

The municipal video archive, of which the films in the video library represent the vast majority, collects, preserves and enhances the audiovisual heritage concerning the city of Venice, its image and its myth. The Pasinetti Video Library dates back to 1991 and, before being moved to San Stae, it occupied Palazzo Carminati.

Within the structure, various activities are organized including:

  • video projections in a room specifically used for this;
  • individual video viewing in a special space (there are eight individual stations for consulting the film heritage);
  • reasoned programming of films through thematic reviews;
  • publication of the "Quaderni della Videoteca Pasinetti"
  • reviews of auteur films;
  • reviews of the first arthouse visions of the independent cinema circuit;
  • film reviews of films in the original language;
  • book presentations;
  • meetings with the authors;
  • themed photographic exhibitions in the exhibition space.

The film catalog is made up of around 10,000 titles organized as follows: classics in their original version with subtitles, art cinema reviews, films and videos from Venetian production and arthouse premieres from the independent circuit. The materials are stored in places where temperature and humidity are systematically controlled and, in addition to the original support, there are duplicates on "copy-security". Access is allowed to members of the video library and it is possible to consult the films individually by reservation.
